Dr. Sauer is a native of Long Island and has resided in New York State nearly his entire life. He completed his undergraduate education at SUNY-Binghamton with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, in addition to completing his pre-med requirements. He attended medical school at Downstate Medical Center, graduating cum laude, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national honor society for medical schools.

He completed a residency in Ophthalmology at New York Medical College, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital.

After 4 years in academic medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore, in 2000, he began his many years of private group practice in the Hudson Valley. He is excited to continue his career by establishing an independent ophthalmology practice.

While the practice focuses on his expertise in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (eye muscle disorders in children and adults), he brings over 20 years of clinical experience in general ophthalmology. He continues to perform modern cataract surgery and is one of the few physicians in the Hudson Valley Region who performs ophthalmic procedures for patients of all ages, including infants. He is proud to offer his services for “Mid-Hudson Family Ophthalmology, PLLC”.

Dr. Sauer’s life outside of his profession revolves around family and friends, most notably his 3 daughters. His hobbies include golf, skiing and traveling. He has a passion for fine food and wine and has a growing collection of concert posters proudly displayed both at home and in the office.

Dr. Sauer performs surgical procedures at Hudson Valley Ambulatory Surgery, and Orange Regional Medical Center, both in Middletown. He continues to be affiliated with Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center.
